IT Systems Engineer (VCP & MCSE)

MVS, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated, professional IT Systems Engineer to support its clients in Washington, DC. Potential candidates must have an active VMWare Certified Professional (VCP) certification and an active Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) certification.  He/she must have an expertise with VMWare (ESXi, View, and vCenter) and Microsoft Server (Windows Server 2012), mobility solutions. Candidates must have a 4-year degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.  In addition to the required VCP and MCSE, any IT manufacturer certifications or other active project management certifications are highly desirable.

Experience Required: Mid Level (4-6+ Years) of relevant experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

Technology Upgrade Services

  • Oversee upgrade of new versions of Microsoft Server, Windows Desktop and other server software
  • Make improvements to virtualized environments using VMWare View, ESXi, vCenter, and SAN infrastructure
  • Support upgrades to mobility solutions (tablets, phones, BYOD)
  • Support upgrades to telecommunications services (alternate network providers, VOIP, DAS)
  • Occasionally perform physical tasks such as racking/unracking hardware and running cables to equipment


Server Administration and Migration Services

  • Oversee and provide client /server administration services to clients within virtual /physical environments such as VMware and Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Design new build sequences using Microsoft MDT
  • Support development of new server images using Windows Server 2012
  • Test and deploy upgrades
  • Configure, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and tune network infrastructures and related components including routers, switches, gateways, firewall systems, and multi-function switches
  • Develop, implement, and perform standard maintenance procedures and perform preventive activities
  • Implement changes to the IT architecture to meet the changing needs of the organization in coordination


Planning and Documentation Services

  • Participate in technical planning meetings
  • Provide guidance on feasibilkity of proposed hardware and software enhacements
  • Create labs and proof-of-concepts in client environment
  • Create comprehensive documentation on solutions researched and developed
  • Provide onsite subject matter expertise in Windows Server, VMWare ESXi, storage area netwroks, and Microsoft SQL
  • Provide competent leadership, and knowledge in respective task areas
  • Promote open communication and execellent customer service



  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.  Master's Degree, highly desirable
  • 4-6 years of information technology experience, with at least 2 years experience in managing an IT operations
  • Active VMWare VCP and Microsoft  MCSE Certifications
  • Experience using Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project and other project management tools
  • Experience using backup software tools and PC imaging tools, such as Symantec Backup Exec, Ghost, or Acronis
  • Knowledge using Microsoft Active Directory, IIS, SQL Server and relational databases
  • Excellent project management and planning skills to ensure appropriate scheduling of resources including staffing, equipment, and supplies
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to evaluate situations make recommendations and take prompt, effective corrective action
  • Experience maintaining a well-organized operation to ensure the efficiency and accuracy of the work and information flow; monitor procedures, and implement corrective actions as required
  • Excellent communication skills both internally at the team, management, and externally with customers
  • Ability to multi-task effectively  and successfully manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Knowledge of Government contracts and programs, preferred
  • Self-motivation and highly enthusiastic
  • Creative thinker able to generate ideas that improve customer service and satisfaction
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs to 50lbs
